Monday, Monday

Ah, Mondays - already a difficult day to begin with, and made all the more irritating with half the stores in Zürich closed. Just getting used to the city shutting down on a Sunday was hard enough for me!

A Monday haul, from TIGEL

And what if Monday is your day off? And you'd like to spend part of that day thrifting? A cruel trick indeed!

Fortunately, there is a small handful of Brocki's that are open on Mondays! Here is the list, current to 24 May 2014.

Zürich Thrift Stores open on MONDAYS (Montag):

Four large brocki's open on Mondays! :) Note that HIOB opens an hour earlier than the others. My advice would be to head there first, and then (if you're speedy!), you can arrive at around opening at one of the other three (my favourite in this list is TIGEL in Seefeld!).

Don't have a car? Me either - I use SBB to get around Zürich. Don't forget to use their trip-planning feature; if you're trying to get from point A to point B as quickly and efficiently as possible, SBB's website is who you want to consult!

For example, if you wanted to go from HIOB to TIGEL on a Monday, you could enter the following:

I typed "Wehntalerstrasse 530" and "Hornbachstrasse 62", and SBB filled in the rest (city and postleitzahl (postal code), PLZ)
Easy peasy! :) Unfortunately, the trip from HIOB to TIGEL will take about 45 minutes by transit, so you're unlikely to get there in time for opening (not that it's required!). In contrast, it only takes 23 minutes to get to the Zuercher Brockenhaus, and 27 (or 37) minutes to get to the Arche Brockenhaus.

Not only is thrifting a fun (and potentially profitable) past-time, but it also helps you to 'get out there' and see neighbourhoods in Zürich that you may not have otherwise stumbled upon. And with the fantastic transit infrastructure here, getting around is easy and speedy, too!

Enjoy your Monday!

Thriftly Yours,

TiZ
